Hugging Face is a company and an online platform where the AI community shares models, datasets and demos, much like GitHub for code.
The platform (the "Hub") hosts a very large number of open-weight models, downloadable in a few lines of code. The company also develops widely used open-source libraries, including Transformers, which loads and uses these models in a standard way, as well as training and inference tools such as TGI.
Founded by French entrepreneurs, Hugging Face has become an almost mandatory stop for anyone working with open models: people publish, compare and retrieve models there. It also offers paid plans to host and serve models.
Why it matters when hiring
Almost every AI engineer uses Hugging Face, so having it on a resume does not set anyone apart. The useful signal is on the candidate's public profile: published models or datasets, library contributions, demos. It is a verifiable portfolio, often more telling than a list of skills. Ask for it the way you would ask for a GitHub.
