Sublime Text is a proprietary code editor available on Windows, macOS and Linux, known for its speed, lightness and clean interface. It was created by Jon Skinner and first released in 2008.
It popularized several features that have become standard in modern editors: multi-cursor editing, the command palette and instant navigation across a project's files. It supports syntax highlighting for a large number of languages and can be extended with plugins written in Python.
The software is paid, but can be evaluated for free. Many developers have since moved to Visual Studio Code or more complete IDEs, but Sublime Text keeps a following for its speed on large files.
Why it matters when hiring
The code editor carries almost no hiring weight: a good developer is effective with whatever tool they master. What matters more is their ability to set up their tooling (debugger, tests, coding assistants) to save time.
