IT Infrastructure

TermConcept

As the name suggests, infrastructure is the set of components needed to develop and operate a technical solution.

As the name suggests, infrastructure is the set of components needed to develop and operate a technical solution. It supports and coordinates all the resources of the technical environment.

It is composed of:
- hardware: computers, datacenters, routers, etc.
- software: the technical applications that allow a web product to be developed, hosted and maintained — servers, operating systems and so on.
- networks: the components (virtual and physical) that let the system's internal and external pieces talk to each other — cables, firewalls, internal connections, etc.

Sometimes you'll hear about Cloud infrastructure, which is about virtualising anything that can be virtualised.
