Agile is a project management approach that breaks projects down into a series of small, achievable goals. It was shaped in the early 2000s by 17 American engineers who found the traditional management methods of the time too heavy, slow and constraining.
When working in Agile mode, teams operate in short cycles known as sprints or iterations, usually lasting between one week and one month. This is a far cry from traditional approaches like Gantt charts or waterfall plans that lock projects in for 12 or 24 months.
There are several ways to apply the Agile methodology. You can use Kanban, Scrum or even Extreme Programming (XP). All these methods build on the foundations of the Agile Manifesto.
